Can you remember the last time you felt the thrill of youthful energy coursing through your veins? The carefree days where stress was a word, not a feeling, and tiredness was a myth reserved for older folks? If you're nodding along, thinking those days are long gone, I have a secret to share with you – you can feel young again at 50!
Rediscovering the Fountain of Youth
Reaching the age of 50 often comes with a host of responsibilities and challenges that can leave you feeling drained and worn-out. But what if I told you that age is just a number, a state of mind you can bend to your will? By making a few simple changes to your habits and mindset, you can reclaim the vitality and zest for life you thought were lost to time.
1. Mind Over Matter:
Our minds hold immense power over how we perceive ourselves and our surroundings. To kickstart your journey to feeling young again, start by adopting a positive mindset. Challenge those negative thoughts that keep creeping in and replace them with affirmations that remind you of your worth and vibrancy.
It's too hard. with I can do hard things.
I can't do this. with I WILL do this.
I've tried this before and it didn't work. with I am not giving up on myself.
I don't have the patience. with I am worth the effort.
What are some negative statements you tell yourself that you can transform into positive affirmations?
2. Move Your Body:
Am I the only one signin' and dancin'? "Move your body, girl! Can you feel the beat? Move your body! Move your body! Move your body!" Haha, you know you are!!
Okay, back to to the topic at hand...
Exercise isn't just for the young; it's a key ingredient in the recipe for eternal youth. The key to making it consistent is finding activities you love, whether it's yoga, dancing, swimming, a brisk walk in the park, or the game that's sweeping the world, pickleball! Whatever it is, commit to moving your body regularly.
When you sit a lot, you want to sit more. The same goes for activity. The more you move, the more you want to move! It's hard to sit for long periods, so you have to get up and move (which is really recommended, even if it's for a bathroom break). As you know, if you've been sedentary and then start an exercise program, you will initially have some muscle soreness, which means don't go balls to the wall right away. Ease into it so you're not compelled to NOT go again. Add in activity and not only will you feel more energetic, but you'll also notice increased strength and flexibility – essential components of feeling youthful.
3. Nourish Your Body, Nourish Your Soul:
Your body is a temple, and the food you consume is the fuel that keeps it running smoothly. Embrace a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, wholesome fats and lean proteins to nourish your body from the inside out. That healthy glow comes from high octane fuel. Processed foods and added sugars are energy zappers! If you're looking to cut down on both, you should join the 4-day Sugar-Free Challenge. We focus on feeling full and satisfied with protein, fat and fiber, and relying on community for support. It all starts Monday, September 16th, 2024. So, before and after the challenge, of course, indulge in the occasional treat, don't forget to hydrate and watch as your energy levels soar.
And, can I say that our souls need a little love, too? We focus so much on fueling our bodies, that our souls often get neglected. A few things come to mind when thinking about nourishing our souls. First, the Holy Spirit offers a natural buzz that outlasts any other buzz out there, and doesn't lead to dead ends. Second, spend time with others that make you feel good about yourself, make you laugh and fuel your soul with their energy and inner light. Lastly, enjoy a little getaway and take in all that nature has to give. It doesn't need to be anything fancy. Maybe go camping, hike a trail off the beaten path or take a few minutes to watch a beautiful sunrise or sunset. Talk about invigorating!
4. Sleep, the Ultimate Elixir:
Tiredness is often a sign that our bodies are craving rest. Ensure you're getting the recommended amount of sleep each night to allow your body to rejuvenate and repair itself. If you're struggling with sleep, you may find this blog post helpful, Strategies of a Poor Sleeper. I'd just like to add that when you cut out the crappy food, those nights of crappy sleep decrease, too. If you're going through any of the stages of menopause, it's important to pay attention to triggers that cause or exasperate conditions, sleepless nights included. Alcohol, sugar, caffeine, social media (or anything on an electronic devise) or certain foods should be avoided. Say goodbye to puffy eyes and sluggish mornings – a well-rested body is a youthful body.
5. Unplug and Unwind:
In today's fast-paced world, stress is an unwelcome companion that can sap your youthful glow. Take time each day to unplug from technology, practice mindfulness or prayerful meditation, and engage in activities that bring you joy. Did I mention nature? Our world is full of anti-stressors - walks on the beach, going barefoot in the grass, listening to the leaves rustling in the wind and the birds signing, kayaking on a calm lake. Breathe in the fresh air, notice the sounds of nature, feel the ground below your feet - they all decrease stress and anxiety way better than that nightly glass of wine. Focusing on quieting your mind creates a stress-free mind, which is a fountain of youth waiting to be tapped.
Embracing Your Journey to Youth
Changing your habits may seem daunting at first, but remember – the journey to feeling young again won't happen overnight, that's why it's called a journey rather than a sprint. Celebrate small victories along the way, surround yourself with positivity, and be gentle with yourself when setbacks occur. You're a resilient, vibrant woman (Or man, I don't want to have you feel left out!) with the power to rewrite your story and redefine what it means to be 50.
So, are you ready to embrace your inner youth at 50? It's never too late to start on the path to feeling rejuvenated, energetic, and carefree. Take the first step today and watch as your life transforms into a vibrant tapestry of youthful exuberance and joy.
